Frequently Asked Questions about the Peru 6 day tour itinerary

How long can a tourist stay in Peru?

The extensions of this term are requested before the National Superintendence of Migration in Peru (www.migraciones.gob.pe), before the end of the authorized period of stay. The maximum period of stay in Peru is 90 days, and can be extended up to 183 days.

What is not allowed in Machu Picchu?

Prohibited objects inside the Inca city

If you want to enter Machu Picchu without problems, we recommend you not to bring any of the following objects: Tripods, supports, or extensions for cameras or cell phones.

Is altitude sickness in Cusco serious?

Mild altitude sickness should not interfere too much with your normal activity on your trip to Peru. Symptoms usually appear between 12 and 24 hours after arrival and tend to subside within 3 days. If you continue to feel unwell, ask your hotel to call a doctor, as more severe reactions may require medical attention.

Are shoes okay to go to Machu Picchu?

Hiking shoes are absolutely necessary if you plan to climb Machu Picchu, as the terrain can be steep and rugged, requiring solid footing with good ankle support. If you are traveling by public transportation to visit the site during the day, you can go with comfortable walking shoes or sneakers.

Can you wear jeans to Machu Picchu?

Jeans will be a fine choice for a standard trip to Machu Picchu, but if you’re hiking Huayna Picchu or the Inca Trail, you’ll want leggings, a merino wool base layer, or hiking pants.

What is the most important thing about Lake Titicaca?

Lake Titicaca is considered the highest navigable lake in the world, reaching 3810 m.a.s.l. and is important in Peru because, according to legends, the founders of the famous Inca Empire were born from its waters.

Why is Lake Titicaca called Lake Titicaca?

When the sun returned, the couple, who fled in a boat, saw that the pumas in the area had turned to stone, which gives rise to the possible etymology of the lake’s name: Titi, meaning cat or puma, and kaka, stone, form the local name given to the lake.
