Itinerary Rainbow Mountain Tour
4:30 am Cusco – Cusipata (Breakfast)
This tour starts very early so we must get ready a day before, first, we will pass by your hotel in Cusco between 04:00 and 04:30 am, so we can head south where our first point is approximately two hours until we reach the district of Cusipata – Paucarpata where we can have breakfast.
Cusipata – Parking Post
After our delicious Andean breakfast we will continue our trip for another 1 hour until we reach the checkpoint and start our hike.
The uphill hike will last approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes approximately, during the hike we will observe the Andes mountain range and its impressive peaks and snow-capped mountains, as well as the flora and fauna, we will also have the opportunity to observe Llamas and Alpacas in their natural habitat.
Note: There is an option to rent horses which you can negotiate directly with the villagers to make it easier.
Rainbow Mountain or Vinicunca
Once we arrive at the viewpoint of Vinicunca or Mountain of Colors which is approximately at 5080 masl, our guide will give us an explanation about the orographic composition, ecosystem, and color of the mountain, we can also take advantage of the moment to take pictures and admire the beautiful landscape. Then we will return by the same road to the point where we started the hike (approximately one hour of downhill descent) where our transport will be waiting to take us back to Cusipata.
Cusipata Lunch – Cusco
After having visited this beautiful wonder we will enjoy lunch in Cusipata. After lunch we will start our return trip to Cusco, arriving between 5 and 6 in the afternoon. The last stop will be near the Plaza de Armas of Cusco.
Note: After Vinicunca, there is an optional additional trek into the Red Valley. The duration of the walk is approximately 30 minutes, and you will be required to pay an entrance fee to the area of 20 soles ($7 approx). Please have this in cash.
