South Valley Tour Cusco Itinerary

Cusco – Tipon

Once ready, we will travel to the southern part of Cusco where we will climb a mountain where the Tipon complex is located, an archaeological park that contains enclosures, terraces and an intact ditch. The upper part of the complex is crossed by the Inca Trail along with an irrigation channel. This site has one of the largest irrigation works and with an incredible distribution of channels made of stone that are active throughout the year, that is why it is considered a “marvel of civil engineering” according to the American hydrologist Kenneth Wright. After visiting this Andean treasure we will head to our next destination.

After we’ve been dazzled in Tipon our next point will be, Pikillacta or native language “Flea Village” It was one of the most important and administrative centers of the Wari culture, one of the pre-Inca cultures that existed in the Andes. Pikillacta represents a system of planned urbanism. Some specialists maintain that Pikillaqta remained in force until the time of the Incas, as well as is considered today as one of the best known and best-preserved pre-Inca cities that exist in the beautiful country of Peru. It has 700 buildings, a harmonious and almost perfect design, divided into blocks and with streets. Its constructions were of 2, and up to 3 floors. This citadel during its apogee must have had a population of 10 thousand people.

Pikillaqta – Andahuaylillas, “The Sistine Chapel of America

After having visited Pikillaqta, our next visit will be to the Sistine Chapel of Latin America, Andahuaylillas, which in addition to its beauty and colonial architecture, has a variety of high quality works of art such as: murals, canvases, altarpieces, altars, etc., located in front of the main square of the same town.
This church was built over some important Inca construction, possibly a “Waka” or sacred place.

Andahuaylillas Cusco

After visiting these impressive sites we will arrive in the city of Cusco where we will be dropped off at a place near the main square of Cusco.
